Introduction to the Guide to Pesticides (Blue Book)

Previously the Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) produced a paper copy of The Pesticides Blue Book, which listed agricultural and non-agricultural pesticides products whose uses held full or provisional approval in the UK.

This information is now available electronically via this website www.pesticides.gov.uk  (previously holding information regarding  PSD but now holds information on Chemicals Regulation Directorate ( CRD) activities relating to pesticides) and also the main  HSE  Web Site. Whilst the paper publication was only a ‘snapshot’ of all approvals as at the date of printing, and so became almost immediately out of date, the Internet version is regularly maintained throughout the year to ensure our customers always have the most up to date information available to them.

The guidance from the original 'Blue Book' is available in this web-based Guide to Pesticides with information on Pesticide Products available from the Product Information databases on this Web-site (www.pesticides.gov.uk )  and from the biocides and pesticides section of HSE's Website: http://www.hse.gov.uk/biocides/index.htm.

Additional information on the products listed on this web site is available on product labels and literature or from manufacturers and suppliers.

You should always read the product label and use pesticides safely. You have a duty to check that you know how to use a product safely in accordance with the statutory conditions of approval.

These approvals conditions are set out on the product label and in the appropriate regulations given by Ministers. Further information on the approval status of pesticides may be obtained:

In the case of products listed in Product Information  on this website from:

In the case of other biocide and pesticide registered products with an "HSE" number:
