Two pest controllers jailed for deliberately killing wildlife
On 18 October 2010 at Snaresbrook Crown Court Terrence Webb of Peregrine Road, Ilford and Mark Page of White Hart Lane, Romford, pest controllers employed by Newham Borough Council were jailed for 4 months and each fined £7,000 for intentionally poisoning wildlife. The prosecution was taken by the CPS following the deaths from pesticide poisoning of a number of birds and a German Shepherd dog at Alexandra Park, Wanstead East London.

Biological Assessment Dossier Training Workshop Wednesday 13th October, 2010
CRD will be holding a workshop on the preparation of Biological Assessment Dossiers on Wednesday 13th October, 2010. The aim of the course is to enable attendees to minimise the costs of data generation, maximise the potential to use existing data and to extrapolate from these, and know how best to summarise and present the information to ensure an efficient evaluation by CRD.

HardSPEC _model_workshop
A training workshop will be held on Tuesday 9th November at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire, UK, to introduce new users to the 'HardSPEC' model and to update more experienced users. This model is used by CRD for predicting concentrations of pesticides in surface water and groundwater which can be used in regulatory risk assessments.

CRD is proposing to host a one-day workshop in York on Tuesday 2 November 2010 which will provide an introduction and overview to areas of ecotoxicological risk assessments. The workshop will be targeted towards registration specialists involved in the preparation and submission of Plant Protection Product dossiers to CRD.

Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) and 2-phenylphenol, safeners and synergists
This is a replacement for Information Update 25/2008 (issued on 20 November 2008) and updated on 16 April 2010. 2-phenylphenol (safeners and synergists) are not currently subject to MRLs under Regulation 396/2005. However, this situation will change in the future.

CRD Statement Regarding Existing Stocks of Indian Grapes Containing Residues of Chlormequat
CRD has taken exceptional limited action to allow marketing of grapes already in the UK supply and retail chain provided the residue levels are below the acute threshold of 1.06 mg/kg calculated by EFSA.

Norfolk potato grower admits use of illegal pesticide
On 20 April 2010 at Ely Magistrates Court, following proceedings taken by the Health and Safety Executive, Mr Thomas John Mott was fined £2,250 and ordered to pay a further £5,000 in costs after pleading guilty to two counts of storing and using an unapproved pesticide.

Changes To Invoicing Procedures at CRD From 1 April 2010
From 1 April 2010 the finance function within the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) York is being centralised within The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and all invoicing work will be transferred to Bootle. This Information Update gives details of the changes.

This will produce product-related information drawn from notices of approval in an XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format for download from our website.
