Re-registration and MAPP number changes

Information Update: 03/2012

Issued: 11th January 2012

Previously, plant protection products approved under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 (COPR) and subsequently re-registered under the Plant Protection Products Regulations 2005 (implementing Council Directive 91/414/EEC) were automatically allocated a new MAPP number. The approval for the older COPR product (and MAPP number) was then revoked. This was so that it was clear which piece of legislation applied to a plant protection product.

With the transition to Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, all plant protection products are deemed to be to be authorised under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. As a result, it is no longer necessary to automatically issue new MAPP numbers at re-registration, providing that there are no significant changes to the product. This avoids the need to withdraw existing MAPP Numbers, although previous notices of approval/authorisation will be withdrawn and new notices of authorisation will be issued under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.

This policy took effect from 26 July 2011.
