Extension of use of Approved Plant Protection Products: an Introduction

Extension of Use

Users and Authorisation holders of agricultural Plant Protection Products (PPP) may apply to have the authorisation of specific PPP's extended to cover uses additional to those authorised and shown on the manufacturer's product label. Any such Extension of Uses granted may have additional conditions of use attached to them. Use in these cases is undertaken at the user's choosing, and the commercial risk is entirely theirs. Users are required to be in possession of the relevant Extension of Use details. Electronic copies of Extensions of Use can be obtained from the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) website Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use Database. For further information contact:

The Long Term Arrangements for Extensions of Use (LTAEU)

The LTAEU were introduced as a temporary measure in the late 1980s to allow pesticides to be used on listed minor crops. Since that time UK pesticide authorisations have gradually been transferring to EU based legislation, where specific authorisations are required for all uses. Further information is available on the Farmers and Growers Home Page.
