Information Update - Technical Fate and Behaviour Assessment of Plant Protection Products Workshops - September 2012

Information Update: 10/2012

Issued: 27th June 2012

CRD will be holding two one-day workshops on technical aspects of the environmental fate and behaviour assessments of plant protection products. The workshops will be held at The Chemicals Regulation Directorate in York on Tuesday 18th September and Thursday 20th September, 2012 and registration will be from 8:45 am. The workshop will start at 9:15 am and finish around 4:30 pm. The cost per delegate will be £380 (plus 20% VAT).

Format of the day:

This new course will be specifically designed for those with at least a basic working knowledge of environmental fate and behaviour who want to develop their expertise in this area further. The course will present attendees with an overview of environmental fate assessments at EU level and highlight the key issues that they must take into account when preparing product approval submissions. The course will cover basic introductions to the use of the FOCUS groundwater and surface water models and various refinement options, as well as UK specific environmental exposure requirements. The course will comprise a mixture of presentations and workshops with worked examples. By the end of the course, participants will have a better appreciation of this area of pesticide risk assessment and be better able to prepare regulatory submissions for plant protection products.

It is proposed that the training will cover areas such as:

  • Overview of the EU process, the EFSA conclusion, key endpoints and critical areas of concern
  • The use of the risk envelope approach
  • Zonal assessment and national addenda
  • FOCUS groundwater modelling (e.g. with PEARL and PELMO)
  • FOCUS surface water Steps 1, 2 and 3 and risk mitigation with SWAN
  • UK specific environmental exposure assessment requirements (groundwater, spray drift and buffer zones, first tier drainflow and higher tier refinement options)
  • Common problems with applications
  • Future developments, EFSA activities and guidance documents

Registrations:

A programme and full details of the day are available on the events section of the CRD website (please note we reserve the right to amend the content if appropriate, without prior notification).

Given the nature of the event, places will be limited to a maximum of 12 people for each day, and will be issued on a first come first served basis.
