Advisory Committee on Pesticides (ACP) Chair Recruitment
The ACP was established under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA) to give independent scientific advice to Ministers on all matters relating to pesticides. There are currently 18 Members on the Committee. The Chair and Members serve an initial term of three years and the Committee meets up to seven times a year in York. The position of Chair is currently vacant with the successful candidate due to take up the role in early 2013.
Subject to the successful Parliamentary passage of the necessary legislation, the ACP is expected to be reconstituted as an Expert Committee, probably in 2013. All Members will be invited to transfer to the reconstituted Committee.
The Advisory Committee on Pesticides requires a Chair to lead the committee and provide scientific advice to Government and the devolved Administrations on the safe and effective use of pesticides and other pest control methods. The Committee’s work involves evaluation of data on specific pesticides as well as providing generic advice on relevant issues.
The position:

Appointments will be based on merit, with independent assessment, openness and transparency of process. The Government and devolved administrations are committed to the principles of equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the Community regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, colour, ethnic origin, religion or disability. Women, representatives of ethnic minority communities and people with disabilities are currently under-represented on government committees and applications from these groups are therefore particularly welcome.
