UK Minor Uses Network
Introduction
Minor uses are either uses of pesticides on small area cropping or against infrequent pests.
A large number of crops grown in the UK can be classed as minor uses and Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) support these in a number of ways, including Specific Off-Label Approvals (SOLA) and support for Essential Uses.
PSD is committed to supporting minor use initiatives relating to the control of pests, weeds and diseases that enable UK growers to produce quality produce. As part of this role PSD is involved in European Commission working groups that are investigating and co-ordinating Member States efforts and resources into support for minor uses.
In addition to this PSD are co-ordinating a UK Minor Uses Network, which is a group of UK grower representatives and industry researchers to look at UK specific problems. This group has been set up to help inform both PSD and the European Commission on efforts to support minor crop production.
