How to Check if a Pesticide Product Has Been Withdrawn
Checking your products
Some pesticide products that have been have been withdrawn from the market have been replaced by a newer one with a similar name. There are two ways you can check to see if the product you have is the ‘old’ product or the new replacement product:
- By checking the registration number; or
- By checking the chemical names of the ingredients.
Registration numbers and chemical names can be found on the product label.
Each product has a unique registration number (this is a 5-digit number with either "MAPP" or "MAFF" at the beginning). Any new product will have a different registration number to the old withdrawn product. For example, "ASDA Lawn Feed Weed and Mosskiller" (10871) containing dichlorprop was withdrawn and replaced by "ASDA Lawn Feed Weed and Mosskiller" (10968) containing dichlorprop-p.
The quickest way to check if your pesticide product is approved is to use the Garden Database.
If you cannot find the product on the database it might be because it is not approved. You can contact us for information on earlier withdrawals.
The table below provides details of active substances withdrawn more recently in the EC Review Programme. It also gives final dates for sale, use and storage. The most recent active substance to be withdrawn is at the top of the table. The individual products affected by this can be found through the active substance link.
