Off-Label Uses of Approved Pesticides - an Introduction

Specific Off-Label Approval (SOLA)

Users of agricultural pesticides may apply to have the approval of specific pesticides extended to cover uses additional to those approved and shown on the manufacturer's product label. Any such specific off-label approvals granted may have additional conditions of use attached to them. Use in these cases is undertaken at the user's choosing, and the commercial risk is entirely theirs. Users are required to be in possession of the relevant notice of approval. Electronic copies of off-label approvals can be obtained from the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) website SOLA Database. For further information contact:

Extensions of Use for Minor Crops

The Long Term Arrangements for Extensions of Use (LTAEU)

The LTAEU were introduced as a temporary measure in the late 1980s to allow pesticides to be used on listed minor crops. Since that time UK pesticide approvals have gradually been transferring to EU based legislation, where specific approvals are required for all uses.  Further information is available on the Farmers and Growers Home Page.
